CR-8
CR-8When you can't find a hero, you gotta make one! CR-8 is a mishmash of metal and nerd stuff that will take care of any enemy automatically - provided his circuitry is properly organized! Pronounced as Crate. Abbreviation for Clockwork Rat 8 |

Gameplay
Species: Robot Rodent
Gimmick:
- CR-8 level up with Tetromino pieces instead of individual spaces.
- Due to his mechanical nature, CR-8 can not find most consumables that
heal or give
Regen.
- Energy Charges! Instead of
using (most) items directly, CR-8 starts with a Core that on use, creates a charge of 3 base
Energy, that may be modified by items that provide
Energy by an "**Each Turn**" effect. Each charge travels in a cardinal direction,
using any item it travels through. If the item costs
Energy, the charge will lose
Energy equal to that cost. After consuming all
Energy from the Charge, it will disappear, and any other active charges will fire. If all charges disappear, your turn will end. The Core must always be in the backpack.
- Unique Items: CR-8's unique item type is the Component, items that manipulate charges in various ways. They allow for him to redirect, add Energy, spawn new charges, and more. Other exclusive items include the Circuit Board that lets him reorganize without
Energy cost, items such as the Ray Gun that depend on charge travel distance, and items that move other items, such as the Piston.
- Each floor, spawns a unique Component Chest that lets CR-8 select a bonus component.
CR-8 Exclusive Items
Tips
- Due to his unorthodox method of both
Energy and
item use, CR-8 is the character whose power levels shift the most based on organization. Due to a combination of a lack of a proper character ability combined with reorganizing normally skipping your turn, most of his gameplay nuance occurs outside of battle, optimizing his current build as much as possible.
- Compared to other characters, CR-8's backpack size is massive, allowing easy storage of any items that may be needed or sold in the future, as long as they are placed away from charge path to avoid wasting
Energy or
uses.
- Since charges
use items each tile they travel on, larger items such as 1x3 and 2x2 items are used multiple times if possible. Adjust desired item usage by rotating them or the charge to the correct orientation to avoid wasted energy.
- The lack of most
HP recovery options means that CR-8 benefits most than other characters from
defensive items, especially early game.
- (to be added) Some components carry an overheat limit, alternating their effects randoming from limiting the amount of uses per turn, to causing different effects entirely.
- Due to the various amount of components adding
Energy, either by directly to a charge or spawning new charges, CR-8 has the highest energy surplus of all characters, allowing for higher potential for OTK-based builds. He however lacks methods for "Pacifism" builds, rendering items like Pacifist's Ring and Ember Shard tricky to maintain.
Lore
A mysterious automaton rebuilt and modified by the clock-maker turned adventurer, Constance with aid from legendary adventurer, Matthew. Its origins are unknown, having been found rusted and inactive. The technology that composes Cr-8 is highly advanced, though it now consists partially of clockwork. CR-8 uses technological components to seek out a modulated yet familiar voice that calls from the depths.
