A hazard is a type of detrimental item spawned by various enemies within the dungeon. When an enemy has a specific hazard intent, on their next turn, they will spawn in a number of hazard items for you to place. You must place these hazards inside your backpack, or skip them, losing HP based on your current floor, as well as the number of times you've already skipped them in this run.

Hazards come in all shapes and sizes, are placed on top of other items, and all share the property of being Bomb.png Destroyed at combat end. When any item is completely covered by hazards, it is Disabled.png Disabled until at least one of its slots is removed of hazards. Like all items, hazards are able to be destroyed by other items in your backpack, such as Ballista and Mechanized Toy, allowing for hazards to fuel benefits in said conditions. Otherwise, hazards mainly offer negative effects to deal with in your current combat, creating challenging decisions at times.

History

Hazards were in the very first version of the demo. They targeted random spaces in the backpack, disabling any items they landed on until they were destroyed. Targeting reticles let the player know which spaces were targeted. They were quickly replaced with Curse.pngcurses. Hazards returned when curses were reworked in the Curse Update, working like curses did the update before.
